Free Methodist Church

About usVision, Mission and ValuesFour Characteristics – Mario & Karina

Beta.Church is part of the Free Methodist Church (FMC), an evangelical Christian denomination rooted in the Methodist movement. This movement began in the 18th century when a group of students at the University of Oxford, under the leadership of John Wesley, sought a spiritual renewal: an active, practical, and committed way of living the Christian faith, centered on daily spiritual growth and integrating love for God and neighbor as a path toward holiness—becoming like Jesus (Matthew 22:37–39).

From this Methodist tradition, the Free Methodist Church was founded in the 19th century in the United States as an effort to live out the gospel more faithfully, promoting freedom, justice, and holiness (Micah 6:8). The mission of the FMC is “to love God, love people, and make disciples,” and its vision is “to bring wholeness to the world through healthy biblical communities of holy people, multiplying disciples, leaders, groups, and churches.”

What We Believe:

  • We believe in the authority of God’s Word over our lives.

  • We believe in one God in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

  • We believe that human beings were created in the image of God as morally responsible agents.

  • We believe in the Church—the people of God who exist to fulfill God’s purposes in Christ.

  • We believe in new life in Christ for believers, free from all guilt and the penalty of sin.

  • We believe in the Kingdom of God established in the hearts and lives of believers, in Christ’s return, and in our hope in the resurrection and eternal destiny.

The Free Methodist Church should not be confused with the United. Chilean, and Pentecostal Methodist Churches. Methodist churches share a common origin in the faith renewal movement that began in 1729 at the University of Oxford, inspired by the teachings of John Wesley, an Anglican clergyman, theologian, and evangelist. The FMC is a branch of the Methodist movement that arose in the 1860s with a vision of freedom:

  • Freedom to live in holiness and in Christ’s mission.

  • Freedom to be led by the Holy Spirit in worship.

  • Freedom for all, regardless of race, gender, or economic status.

  • Freedom from any alliance that would compromise our primary loyalty to Jesus Christ.

  • Freedom for all active participants in the church to be part of decision-making.

Being part of a broader ministry family means there is accountability and structure that make us stronger. You can find more information about our beliefs, history, and distinctives.

Note: The Book of Discipline in ¶6810 states that, as a church plant, we must have a sponsoring agency (local church, board, or conference committee) or ministry committee for guidance, direction, support, accountability, and oversight. The person or people involved in this sponsorship will be announced soon.
